New Moon Purification Ceremony

The New Moon is an auspicious time for purification.

My personal ritual practice around the New Moon is to set an intention to Let Go of habits, behaviors, thoughts that no longer serve my higher purpose to create more space within me for my Higher Self/Spirit/Creator to shine brighter and take up more space in my life. For this New Moon, I created salt scrubs to symbolize the physical purification of this intention.  The New Moon is also a great time to start a project. I made an herbal body oil for emotional balance. The oil (made with dried and ground artemisia, white sage, rosemary, olive oil and love!) will sit on my windowsill for one week. The oil will soak up the sun and moon energy for healing and will be opened with the First Quarter Moon.

Salt Scrubs

salt scrubs are very easy to make! you will need body salt (i recommend Dead Sea salt) and essential oil (I used Child of Eternity essential oil - a combination of 7 plants: artemisia, white sage, rosemary, basil, mint, geranium, maiden sage - from Lucky Six Farms. You can choose to add cold pressed olive oil (or raw sesame or almond oil) to the scrub.

Creating the salt scrub is a ceremony. To begin, clean a space in your kitchen and burn some incense. Take time to set your intention for the scrub (how will it help your New Moon intention?) and light a candle.

Combine all ingredients into a bowl, For every 2 tablespoons of dead sea salt add 10 drops of essential oil. Drizzle olive oil over the salt.

The salt scrub is a gentle exfoliant. It removes a dead layer of skin to help you shed a layer emotionally and physically. Massage the scrub on your feet, in between your toes, and on your hands, in between your fingers. Continue the self massage up your legs and over your belly, moving of the direction of your heart. From your fingers, travel over your arms and chest, towards your heart. Cover your body with the salt and always move in the direction of the heart to activate the Chi (life force) energy.

Enjoy!
