Navaratri - 9 nights Celebrating the Divine Feminine

Navaratri
Celebrating the Goddess
October 13 - 21

Navaratri is a Hindu celebration of Devi, Goddess, or "Shakti" the Divine Feminine Energy.  During the 9 nights, three main Goddess forms are worshiped: Durga, Lakshmi, and Sarasvati.

October 13 - 15
3 nights for DURGA

Durga is the most common, and one of the most fierce forms of Devi or "Shakti" the female energy. She is known as both the preserver and destroyer of life. Durga is depicted as a beautiful yellow woman with ten arms who rides on a tiger. Durga was created out of the flames from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and born to kill! Kill demons that is. She was sought after by many different gods to kill demons. She was armed by special weapons from the gods to do battle. One of her most famous victories was over Mahisha, the buffalo demon, who wanted to drive the gods out of the celestial kingdom. Call on Durga Maa to "kill" your demons; to release all that does not serve you!

October 16 - 18
3 nights for LAKSHMI

Lakshmi or "Sri" is the Goddess of Fortune. She was reborn during the churning of the milk ocean and emerged as a beautiful and radiant woman. Lakshmi has many different forms: Padma (Lotus) because she was born from the waters floating on the flower of a lotus ; Dhanani (Earth) partner to Vishnu; Sita, faithful wife of Rama ; and the cowgirl Radha (partner to Krishna). She is the giver of wealth and fortune (in the Vedic texts the fortune was good and bad but nowadays we see her as the goddess of Good Fortune). Her important reminder to us is that True fortune is not of this material world but is Spiritual Wealth. Because the wheel of fortune is ever changing we must be neutral is accumulating wealth and letting the wealth go by sharing it with others.

October 19 - 21
3 nights for SARASVATI

Sarasvati is the Water Diety and the Goddess of the River according to Vedic texts. We know her today as the goddess of Speech, Creative Arts, Poetry, Music, Learning and Science. She is praised for her purifying, fertilizing, and enriching powers.
